'Streetcar' coming to CSC stage

The Tennessee Williams play, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Memorial Hall at Chadron State College by the Montana Repertory Theatre.

Although Williams led a troubled life, his insights into human behavior were genius. A statement about the play says Williams recognized that humans are part angel and part beast, and that this conflict continually occurs within each of us.

“Of all his masterpieces, none better articulates this paradox than ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’” the statement adds..

The play won the Pulitzer Prize in 1948 and was later made into a movie starring Vivian Leigh, Marlon Brando, Kim Hunter and Karl Malden.

Established in 1977, the Montana Repertory Theatre has become one of the nation’s best-known touring companies. The theatre’s artistic director, Greg Johnson, will direct “A Street Car Named Desire.”

Tickets for the production are available through the Memorial Hall box office, which is open each weekday from 2 to 5 p.m. The cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and youths 18 and under. The box office’s telephone number is 308-432-6360.
